It's delusional of the Sangh to expect the world take the 'Vishwa-guru' crap seriously. Frankly it would do the sangh some good to travel the world and see India as the world sees it. For all the advantages India has, the excess moralizing and sometimes whimpering is a sad spectacle. Dr. Manmohan Singh will be remembered as a pioneer, Modi will be remembered as an empty bombast.

'Clearly, to deserve the title of ‘vishwa-guru,’ we must, first, become exemplars of ‘dharma’ or ethical conduct, at home, for our own youth to follow. '

Brilliantly elucidated. The metaphor of work of Dorian Grey's picture- reflecting back to us the ugly reality of what we have become as a nation but refuse to admit.

Inability of the people to recognize contradictions cements the power of the authoritarian regime. Last para is sublime. विश्वगुरु! a crusader of blasphemy politics.

This essay is well researched and brilliantly written. An eye-opener, which exposes the hypocrisy of the RSS and the fanaticism that has emanated from Savarkar's philosophy. Savarkar was born from the same stable as Hitler, capitalizing on Hitler's idea of a superior race. God created us all of one flesh. We are all of one people. Let us all live in peace. I am British and have been an India lover throughout my life. For me, India will always be a beacon of light in spite of its trials and tribulations. Where there is hope, there is life.

Dear Anguished Indian,

Thanks for writing this post. May I request you that instead of writing to PM, kindly write letters to students and teachers in India. Encouraging them to ask questions, look for facts and not be satisfied with half truths will bring about a lasting change in the destiny of India and world.

This is the Gandhian approach, for example, on 15 Aug 1947, instead of being in Delhi, he choose to be in Kolkotta. Raising awareness, knowledge and scientific aptitude of poorest of the poor will bring about change.

Thanks.

A sense of exceptionalism, not unmixed with hubris, has, historically, led us to assume that India’s ‘manifest destiny,’ guarantees it a place on the international ‘high table.’

1 in 8 Indians is a high caste Hindu but 7 in 8 senior editors at national media publications are high caste Hindu. I think this is a major factor behind the manifest destiny tinged discourse.

Savarkar's hindutva is as close as one can get to Mao's China . If he ,not Gandhi prevailed , and India was succesful we would have been singing his praises like the West does of China .
