Nice article.

Sadly though, the main problem, the elephant in the room, why BJP cannot be ousted is Rahul Gandhi. People do not want him as the PM. They have said so very very emphatically not once, but twice. Giving them the same choices for a third time would be an insult to the electorate. You can't fault the people too, do we want the PMO to be an institution where someone with literally 0 work experience in governance just walks in? No, I don't want it to be the case.

Secondly, the INC currently only runs negative campaigns. You cannot win elections by just throwing mud on the other person, maybe except for in America. You need to give a credible vision of your own as well. Please take the government to the cleaners over issues like unemployment and growth. but are any INC states among the best performing in India in those parameters? Quite the opposite, INC states are amongst the worst. Right now the only thing common in all Congress ruled states is utter chaos be it Punjab, Rajasthan or Chattisgarh. Yet INC talks about a grand vision and jobs and growth in their manifesto. Who will believe them? Why should anyone? Not to mention that they don't even have a permanent party president. The next lok sabha elections are nearer to us than the last one and yet INC is in the same state as 2019. Compare that to the depth of BJP presidents, past and president with some role in the party or government. VK Naidu, Gadkari, Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, JP Nadda. The INC cannot find anyone else apart from prince or princess charming?

There will be a large swing in vote from BJP to INC if there was non Gandhi leadership calling the shots for good. The fact that the Gandhi siblings and mother are willing to see the country go to the dogs, rather than give up control of the party reinforces to me that they are unfit for the highest public office. Today's India hates nepotism. India Today's MOTN survey confirms this. People prefer Mamata/Kejri to lead the opposition space as compared to Rahul.

2024 already looks out of reach. Hopefully AAP and TMC expand enough by 2029 to pose a good challenge.

I don't mind Rahul as PM, but I would much rather he get his hands dirty, become CM or some minister and at least prove he can deliver first. I will not vote for someone parachuted from the top.

Stimulating!

Besides the theory that the individual is mainly part of the herd, is the theory that individual's thoughts and actions are a function of his past lives. Thus even the individual, already restricted ad part of a herd, is further tied down

Well presented and put forth to a very limited audience. This message does not stand a chance against the juggernaut of BJP-RSS machinery of dogma and fear.

The 'We' in the Preamble to be read as 'We, jointly and Severally (Individually)'.... Fundamental rights of an Individual are the Soul ( the use of the word Soul as a figure of speech ) of the Constitution. Therefore the Constitution is fundamentally a guarantee to an lINDIVIDUAL Citizen against being bullied by the State or the Society. (Tree vs Forest)

Elegantly marshaling a plethora of facts while also using her critical skills to wry effect, parsing a country’s stubborn inclination toward willful delusion. This brilliant essay reminds us when Indian politics thrummed with ideas and arguments, articulated with conviction and civility. There is much to learn from, and in turn to argue with, in this timely essay of some of modern India's most contentious – and still continuing – debates. It is up to us to defend it, if we want to continue to be sovereign in the Republic.
